What are WebAds? BACK

WebAds are ads taken directly from the magazine, reduced in resolution and resized to become a banner ad on several areas of our website and electronic newsletters. As an advertiser, this is included in your advertising contract.

In some cases, direct reduction of the ads makes the print illegible.  A quarter page ad reduced to 72 DPI has much larger font sizes when resized than full-page ad would.

However, this direct resizing is sometimes acceptable and legible for online content and placement. Also, colors may appear differently online than in the actual printed magazine. This is because the internet runs in RGB mode, while the ads are design in CMYK. This causes the colors to vary slightly in some instances.

The "Ad-Thumbnail" is generated from this same image, consequently making some fonts illegible and reducing the effectiveness of your online marketing.

The Ad-Thumbnail (100 X 130 px @ 72 dpi) can contain your company's logo, slogan, or product announcement. You can then choose to have your "Ad-Thumbnail" link to the 620 pixel wide version of your print ad OR to a custom WebAd.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Designing a Custom "Ad-Thumbnail"
Ad-Thumbnails that are created specifically for the web can be designed at higher resolutions than 72 dpi. However, it is important that you save the image's final resolution be at 72 dpi.  Adobe Photoshop®  users can use the SAVE FOR WEB feature. Click here or on the image on your right to see an example of a WebAd.

It is also important to consider the resolution of the visitor's monitor.  The most common screen resolution is 800 wide x 600 tall.  *Your Custom WebAd may not exceed 620 pixels wide.  The optimal height1 is 300, but can vary up to 800.

NOTE: The above specified sizes were determined after analyzing the look of our website.

An Ad-Thumbnail is required.  It must be no larger 100 pixels wide by 130 pixels high.  This thumbnail can be a smaller version of your Print or WebAd as long as the type does not become illegible or an introduction to the larger image i.e. a tag line or logo.

1 Optimal height means that the image can be viewed in the browser without having to scroll down to see the rest of the Ad.  Please view the sample and look for the afore mentioned characteristics.
